Take Well-Being Off the Back Burner

By Amy West

“Mental health isn’t something to put on the back burner. We can’t keep good habits in storage until we need them.” ~ Adam Grant, author and professor

Mental well-being isn’t something to save for later when we have “more time” to invest in it. It’s something to fold into our day-to-day life.

It’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking, “I’ll get back to that once life slows down”—whether it’s movement, journaling, rest, or simply a few moments of stillness. But when life feels overwhelming, those are exactly the habits that help carry you through. And if they’ve been tucked away too long, they’re harder to reach for when you need them most.

Mental health isn’t about fixing something when it breaks. It’s about steady, daily care—like stretching before you’re stiff, or charging your phone before it hits 1%.

So here’s a gentle nudge:
What’s one small habit that helps you feel more grounded, present, or whole? Perhaps it’s starting your day with mindful breathing, taking a short walk after lunch, or giving yourself five minutes of screen-free time to reset.

These don’t need to be big gestures. Small, consistent choices add up to a calmer and more supported you.

You don’t have to wait for a crisis to care for yourself. You’re allowed to feel well now. You’re allowed to prioritize your well-being today.

Stretching alongside you,
Amy
