The Art of Not Knowing

By Amy West

“Not until we are lost do we begin to understand ourselves.”~ Henry David Thoreau

There comes a moment in every journey, quiet and often unexpected, when the thing that once lit you up… just doesn’t anymore.

You’re not burned out. You’re not walking away.
But you’re not fully in it either.

Perhaps you feel a little flat. Disconnected. Maybe even restless.

It can feel unsettling, especially when the thing has been a source of purpose, joy, and identity.

What you may be feeling is a deeper shift—an inner call for renewal.
It’s not that something is wrong.
It’s that something within you is ready to change.

You’re in the in-between… a season of transition.
The old rhythm no longer fits, but the new one hasn’t yet emerged.
This space can feel uncertain, but it’s rich with potential.

It’s not a phase to push through.
It’s one to soften into.
To listen deeply.

This isn’t about forcing clarity.
It’s about making room for something more true to you.
Sometimes, that begins by simply not knowing—and letting that be okay.

So if you’re feeling off or uninspired, consider this:

✨ What if you permitted yourself to be right where you are?
✨ What might surface if you stopped trying to figure it all out?
✨ What would it feel like to let go of “what’s next” and return to what feels real?

This pause in your journey is not a detour.
It’s part of your unfolding.
Let it work on you.

🌿 Grounding Practice: Come Home to Now

Sit quietly for one minute. Feel your feet on the floor, your breath moving in and out. Soften your jaw, shoulders, and belly. Breathe deeply…inhale, exhale…
Repeat several times to yourself: “I don’t have to figure it all out. I’m allowed to just be.

📖 Journal Prompt

Set a timer for 5 minutes and complete this sentence:

“Right now, I’m quietly longing for…”

Let the words come without judgment. Let them guide you to what your next step is.

Stretching with you,
Amy
